Redeem points to take a Virgin Voyages Cruise

It has been quite a while but Virgin Voyages has finally released some more cruises that can be booked with points. Just about all of you should have Amex MR’s or Chase UR’s and both of them transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. From there, you can transfer your points to Virgin Red. Why they don’t just combine those programs is unknown but the good news is that this isn’t that much of a problem. Chase and Amex both have transfer bonuses right now which is nice.

The following cruises are available:

-Five-night Caribbean cruises from Miami for 115,000 Virgin points (between June and September of 2024) Click to book

-Seven-night Mediterranean cruises from Athens or Barcelona for 160,000 Virgin points (between May and October 2024) Click to book

There’s also these cruises that will be less useful to most:

-14-night transatlantic cruise from Barcelona to Miami for 280,000 Virgin points (October 27, 2024) Click to book

-16-night transatlantic cruise from Rome to Miami for 320,000 Virgin points (November 28, 2024) Click to book

You’ll get a central sea terrace which is nice but I question whether the value is really there even with the transfer bonuses. I did some quick math and I couldn’t come up with any cruises that were 2cpp although one was pretty close. The redemptions were way better last year so these don’t really excite me.

You should also be aware that Virgin Voyages does just about everything very, very different. Some of that is good and some of that might not be so good if you really liked traditional cruising. At the same time, if traditional cruising is something that is a turn off for you, cruising on Virgin Voyages may be a much better experience for you. We recently went on Virgin Voyages and you can read about our experience here.

I personally won’t be booking any of these cruises. The value just isn’t there for us. I’d rather get above 2cpp but if you do book any of these, be sure to tell us about in our Facebook group.
